My views:
Messenger Plus! is really very feature packed. Ability to set auto-replies, notifications when persons go offline, send auto-text, popup smileys are some features that I use regularly.

Only features I find missing are the ad-remover (which was discontinued in recent versions) and the initial sponsor install program while instaling Messenger Plus! You can bypass the sponsor install and this is a good plus point
As for removing the ad, there are many other programs available to do it.
Note that patching MSN or Windows Messenger infringes Microsoft’s Terms of Use.
