Should have blogged about this a while back, but it kept skipping my mind.
Powered by WordPress is a new directory created to hold all blogs that are using either WordPress (self-hosted) or WordPress.com.
There are 597 categories to choose from, so you have a lot of choice.
The directory offers three types of links:
- Featured links at $19.95/yr: You get Express Approval & More Exposure of your blog in the directory.
- Regular Links with reciprocal: These are free but require a link back to the directory
- Regular Links: These links are free. However, their approval is also the slowest and exposure is the least.
The directory lists details about your blog like the description, Google Pagerank, Alexa Rank and Alexa Traffic graphs, handy links to search engine cached pages and backklinks and with plans for more to come!

I not really sure of the advantage of this directory… why create a directory specifically for blogs powered by WordPress? Why not just any blogs? ..
For a real live person – a user searching for information and content, for example – you *don’t care* whether the blog is powered by WordPress or Blogger or any of the other systems… you just want the content! The idea seems a bit articifial to me.. I wonder how much the directory is actually used?
I agree with quicklode. I use bothe wordpress and blogger. Although the directory is a great idea, it would make more sense, and probably have more take up, if it included both.
I mean, if you’re a blogger, you really don’t mind where the info comes from, as long as you get it.
Using purely wordpress only limits your potential search.
