Why You should Comment on my Blog
Inspite of the fact that my comment policy (has anyone read these?) is a little “strict”, I’ve been very liberal about comments and trackbacks on this blog.
My comments have finally risen and I’ve always believed to make it worth the while for you to comment out here.
I’ve had the DoFollow plugin for a long long time already. DoFollow removes the nofollow that WordPress adds automatically. This means that now when you leave a URL with your comment, you will receive a clean link back to your site.
Google will follow this and ensure you are benefited by the pagerank of the post and site.
I have also recently added the Show Top Commenters plugin on this blog. As you can see the sidebar now displays a list of all the top commenters. I’ve set it to seven days which is a rolling window. Only the top ten commenters of the past week are listed.
If you provide a URL, you’re name is linked to the URL.
This list is displayed on over 1000 pages on the site, many of which are in the range of PR4 to PR6. It doesn’t get any better.
And, all you have to do is comment and make sure you leave a URL in the right place.
Do you need anymore reasons to comment? If so, I’d like to hear it.

Great action from you Ajay,
But one question…How you`ll handle the Human-Spammers right now?
Also do you count the link in the title(commenter name) as a link?!
Linking to one of our pages in any post would be nice(hint, hint ;-))
Another method to get your visitors to comment – go to their blogs and posts comments.
And other thing discourages me from commenting here – my comments get eaten up by your spam hunting plugins. How many times had that happened? I stopped counting. (Just kidding – don’t disable those plugins)
Thanks Ajay! I added the DoFollow tag on my site as a result of your post. Thanks for the tip!
First of all, I started reading your site because I found your great Snap Preview Anywhere plugin. Since then, I have found your posts to be thoughtful and helpful to my own work on the web and elsewhere. I share my comments on posts that I feel have helped me out in one way or another.
I’m going to be taking advantage of the plugins you mentioned on my own site here soon.
@Enblogopedia, If you add a url to the url field while commenting, then it benefits most, like you have done. I don’t mind links in the comment that are relevant, but I edit out any signature links (thats what the URL field is for)
@Binny, You have to get your own hosted solution. Blogspot is really slow for me, especially to comment. I read your blog via the feed though
If you feel any of your comments is missing drop me an email. Infact, I’ve been reporting you as ham so far!
@knupNET, Great to know you’ve joined the list
@Dean, Thank you very much. Glad to know you’re a regular reader. It’s hard to get these!
Long time reader, first time commenter. I have been following the blog through Google reader for a while now. By the way; when can we expect to see some ‘unboxing’ pictures of your new Dell?
The new Dell still hasn’t come. They have a delivery of almost a month, so it is a long wait…
So a link in the URL field will not count as a backlink?!
Are you asking this in a negative or positive sense? I’m confused.
The link in the URL field is the best way to get links back to your blog/site.
lol, I mean well google count that link as a backlink=raising in the PR
As all blogs have a Nofollow on the commenter URL
That’s what the plugin changes. It removes the nofollow. Check out the source on this page, your URL is without the nofollow. So, yes it will be counted.
Hi Ajay
I have been reading your blog for a quite a few months now and it is one of the best “personal” blog i have come across . Keep up the good work .
Hi Madhur,
Thanks for the compliment
yippppeeee! I’m on ur honor roll for the week!
hmmmmmm ….. 3 more comments and I’ll be on the top spot
…. this updates in a jiffy …… okie and now I’m going to stop putting stupid comments just to see numbers jump !
Well, you really need to be getting a website…
Well, MAD..it`s maybe a good thing to be active in any blog, but putting comments this way, isn’t cool at all!
3 comment with nothing important in it!
It`s worth than spamming!
I believe Ajay must delete at least two of your comments.
Enblogopedia…. but the important thing is will he ? and in my defense I did acknowledge the fact that I was over doing it.
As I have said earlier I have been reading your blog regularly but recently started commenting. I think its worth the time. Your posts are useful specially on plugins. Keep it up!
Cheers!
in sync with what madhur has said..this is one of the best personal blogs i have viewed till date!! way to go ajay
.
well MAD u r already on the top of the commenters & its always nice to have some humorous comments
Thanks a lot guys/girls
I think you’ve come up with a great list of reasons. I think the only thing missing for some, like myself was awareness
I believe, when you say awareness, you mean awareness of the blog?
Well, that is something I am working on. Any suggestions?
at least someone appreciates the humor of the comments “fit for a spam bin”. thanx Luna ….. looks like u really enjoy Ajay’s blog have seen u around a lot of late:)
I’ve now lost 2 very long comments. One due to the “Manage your subscriptions” link and one because I didn’t answer the Spam protection question. That’s the start of your lack of comment problems. I’ll submit my other points later if I feel up to it. Just don’t feel like writing it all out a 3rd time at the moment.
Unfortunately, both are necessary evils out here.
Well I would disagree with that. I clicked the Manage your subscriptions link because the Notify me of follow up comments box was ticked by default. From my perspective that’s a bit of a turn off to commenting for someone who’s new to your blog.
As far as the challenge question is concerned, I’ve had remarkable success with Akismet. Perhaps you might replace it with a good spam filter.
one observation, i really like ur spam protection thing..rather than blurred words, its easier to see and answer!
btw mcet out yet?
@Marc, Regarding the subscription thing… i got one set asking for it to be ticked and another asking the otherwise… well… confused… hehe.
I’m not a big fan of Akismet as a plugin. I run SK2 with the Akismet Plugin for SK2, it controls spam but doesn’t prevent it from hitting the database. The math plugin ensures this.
@Luna, I don’t have the blurred words anymore. There’s the small math question
MCET results are around 25th I think.
Reciprocated back by adding Top Commentators list on my blog. Hopefully, It will kick start some conversation
Hey there Ajay – I recently wrote an article about this issue of showing top commentators on the site.
I don’t know if I am for it or against it, still working this one out. I don’t have an issue with providing clean links from the pages where a commentator shows up, but I’m not sure if there is any “real gain” by having commentators names showing in the same sidebar.php – do you know if these get zinged for the duplicate content?
At any rate, thank you for getting rid of nofollow – I appreciate it!
only the sidebar is same, the rest of page content is different, hence the question of duplicate content doesn’t exist.
I continuously refreshing top list adds some level of competition among commenters to comment. And I have the power to regulate what to approve or not. “nice post” is not a comment!
As for
nofollow, I think it is the stupidest spam prevention technique ever!Frankly speaking, I’ve been reading your blog for sometime now. But, commenting has been kind of difficult due to time constraints. Guess I have to put in some special effort here.
Good job with the plugin.
Hi Vijay,
Thanks for dropping in this comment. I know what it is like to actually find time to comment. But, whenever you find something you have to say about a post, do spare those two minutes
Sure.. I’ll try my best. I guess its time to implement the plugin in my blog as well.
After reading you article, one leaves his comment,it shows honor to the owner of the site.Do your think so?…
Cool Bloke, I didn’t get what you exact said, but if I understand, yes the owner or author definitely would feel good to know people read and comment on his article. Btw, I changed your name from the Chinese/Japanese characters as they break the validation of this site. I hope you don’t mind.
Well Ajay, how about $1 via PayPal for every comment I leave? Now THAT’S motivation! lol
BTW, in your source it says this in every link: rel=”external”
What does that mean?
It means the site is an external site. WordPress adds it automatically.
Hi Ajay
I have been reading your blog for a quite a few months now and it is one of the best “personal” blog i have come across . Keep up the good work.
Hi Emma,
Thank you for your compliments. Glad to know you have been an avid reader. Hope to see you more often out here.
just my luck that today i checked my bulk
folder and i found your reply there…
normally i just delete the bulk replies..
why your mail been land up in bulk BTW..
Now, I have no answer to that question.
This is a good initiative. I noticed a huge increase in comments after I enabled do-follow, but also the spam number of comments skyrocketed. Luck for us, there exists Akismet
Hi,
Here is a method to implement NO-NOFOLLOW on Blogspot blogs :
http://betabloggerfordummies.blogspot.com/2007/03/remove-nofollow-attribute-on-comments.html
Regards.
We’ve removed NoFollow from our news blog too. It’s a pointless addition to blogs and just doesn’t stop spam in any way.
wir bieten Ihnen die M
Well after using it I must admit worked a treat until I managed to delete my website with the push of a drunken button, will put it back on soon, but the amount of spam was insane! Still fun to delete them in the morning when hung over at work
Cheers
Hi there,
I have been reading ajay’s blog very regularly and i always liked it. Thanks for keeping us updated ajay. You are doing good job.
Well, hopefully I’ll see you around here more often!
I do-follow links now on my Aussie housewife blog. After a long time procrastinating I have seen the importance of dofollow and using the “do follow” principal to help keep the Internet better connected. http://www.reallyreally.net – Take a look at my dofollow blog and feel free to comment. Thank you, Regards Bree.
