The “Digg This button” is for website and blog publishers that want to encourage their audience to submit or digg their content on Digg. Join thousands of sites that have already added Digg This and seen their content exposed to the Digg community.

The Digg Integrate plugin will allow you to quickly insert the Digg This Button on your blog. By adding <!--digg--> to your post, you can add the button. Alternatively, use the quicktags button to add the code.

It either display the number of diggs or display a submit button depending on whether your post is submitted or not.

• WordPress 1.5 or above

Installing

1. Download Digg Integrate from WordPress Extend.
2. Extract and upload the contents of the digg-integrate.zip to wp-content/plugins/ folder. You get a folder called digg-integrate.
3. Activate the Plugin in WP-Admin.
4. Use the button (digg) in the quicktag toolbar to insert the code.
5. If you are using the WYSIWYG, you will have to add the code manually or use the Code tab. You can add <!--digg--> where you want to display the button. For correct XHTML, make sure that the code is added on a new line.

Customizing:

Add the following code to the style.css to your theme.

/* Digg Button */
.diggbutton {
float: right;
margin: 10px;
}

This will cause the displayed “Digg This” button to be floated to the right.

Digg.com was one of the social networking/blogging successes of 2006, but recently it’s star has started to dim as people have started to question the efficiency of its voting system, that has actually resulted in a small minority, the ‘Digg Mafia’ deciding what makes it onto the homepage or not, rather than the wider userbase.

It was waiting to happen and it has.

Regular readers would have read a few rants about my internet connection.
I have a “broadband” connection with Exatt.

It works using PPPOE and am assigned a dynamic IP everytime I login.

That is fine, but of late I have been noticing that the IP Addresses are all blacklisted in Spam Databases!

The first time I noticed it was with the latest version of Bad Behavior, when I got blocked out of my own blog. Had to downgrade.

And, today I noticed it with Digg.

A spam database lookup for my IP at DNS Stuff finds it in a good number of Blacklists.

I can’t blame Exatt here however, because I am sure that these IPs have been abused by stupid spammers and users with infected computers

I’ve been initiating removals of my IP Address from these lists. But, is there a solution of removing blocks at one shot?

Don’t ask me to contact Exatt for this, because they suck in Customer Care. I don’t think they even know if there is such a thing called Customer Care.

Update:
I wrote to Digg today about the IP address problem. Seems like I was totally mistaken about the reason I was blocked. The reason I was blocked was because I gave UserSubmitter a shot and after a single set of diggs itself, my Digg account was blocked. Digg was kind enough to let me off this time with a warning.

Lesson learnt. Am posting it out here so that all you folks out there will be careful before using such services like UserSubmitter.

Feed Changes

Feed Redirection

Began first by redirecting my blog feed /feed/ to the Feedburner one. So even if you have been subscribing to /feed/ you will be redirected correctly and I have better ways of keeping a count of everyone subscribed. Read how I did it.

Feed Flare

Next customization was with the Feedburner Feed itself. Have utilized FeedFlare. You can now digg the post and/or view the number of diggs.
Also choose to track the comments with co.mments. Also Add to del.icio.us or email your friend

Link Splicer

I have also incorporated the Link Splicer in my feed. My feed subscribers will see an additional feed item (actually seven) which summarizes the links that I have added during the day.

The Whole New Look

The Theme

Have finally got down to customizing this theme as you can see. Have converted it to a 3-column layout with two sidebars to the right. The inner sidebar directly relates to the post, while the outer sidebar gives you things you can do on the site!
I plan on releasing this theme as Connections Revolutions. However, I have a few things I want to add to this theme before I do that.

Now XHTML 1.1 Compliant

Have been meaning to this for quite a while. This site is now XHTML 1.1 compliant!
This does mean that all links now will open in this window itself. While I prefer opening offsite links in new windows, XHTML 1.1 changed that behavior.
Besides this, I sure had to do a great deal of editting on a lot of posts and pages! It’s done now. If you find anything amiss, please do comment below.

Google Search integrated

I have integrated Google Adsense search into the site. If you can’t find what you are looking for with the inbuilt search, you have the option of using Google. Alternatively, use Google Search directly.
I still plan on a few more tweaks like choosing which search you want from the box to the right and better display on the results page. But that’s later.

Easy Browsing

You can now browse from post to post. When you are one one post, you can view links above it leading to the previous and next posts.

New Pages

A few more pages have been added to this site.

In view to encourage comments, you will now find a Comment Policy and Privacy Policy in addition to the Rules.

I will not agree with this statement always but in this case I will.

When I posted What is so special about this photo? I didn’t expect it to get as popular as it turned out to be!

For one it made it as the No. 1 post on Reddit.com with 299 ups and 26 comments at the time of this post. Missed a screenshot at no. 1, but on the left is no. 2

Additionally, it got 46 diggs and 20 comments on Digg.com and also made it on del.icio.us Popular list.

Lastly, I have secured the no. 1 position on Indian Bloggers with hits over six times that of the site on No. 2.

Well, what this actually meant was that my 200 unique visitors averaging blog was had 2,850 on Saturday, 9,295 on Sunday and over 4000 so far on Monday.
My bandwidth usage spiked so high that in the last 48 hours I have consumed almost 50% of my bandwidth (I have a very old account here).

This has made me realize that I have to move my site to another server. Have been contemplating and putting this for quite a while now. And have finally taken up the Corporate account at WebberZone Business Hosting Solutions.

I am currently moving the site there and a few comments may be lost during this transition.

My support forum will remain hosted here.

My demoblog where I test my themes and plugins now takes a new name. I have moved AjayDSouza.net from my WordPress.com site to the demo blog. It also takes on a new name. The old link will redirect you.

That is just about the changes happening right now. Expect a better look to the blog in the near future. However, no time limit for the same.
