I just got back from Pune (story in a seperate post) to find that my VPS has been disabled for CPU usage crossing 80%.

I’ve figured that this has to be a problem with this domain itself which resulted in this crazy usage.

Unfortunately, being in Pune I didn’t even know that the account was disabled.

The VPS is running and I’m currently working on figuring out what exactly caused this major problem

The two culprits I suspect is Angsuman’s Translator Plugin Pro (which I installed last week) and UTW (which I patched sometime back).

I’ve disabled the former now and will monitor this usage over the next 24 hours and then the latter.

I hope to get the situation under control within 48-72 hours.
It’s almost 2am now and I think it is time to hit the bed. Hopefully, I will wake up with a happy server.

More news then.

After a good deal of waiting and testing I have moved this blog to my new VPS. If you notice anything awry please do bring it to my attention.

You should see much better performance now (hopefully). Going to monitor the blog and the VPS closing for a few weeks.

Yet another week has gone by. Met up with Melody after a long long time last Thursday. After a brief stopover at her dentist’s, we dropped in at Pizza Hut in Bandra.

It sure has been a while since I visited Pizza Hut, but it was a welcome change. They have introduced a new range of pizzas which is not yet displayed online. Well, they didn’t turn out to be extraordinary, and definitely didn’t look like the pictures on the menu :O

Friday was an uneventful day and the mouse dropped in on Saturday. Went for the Saturday evening mass.

Mass was good and so was our singing. U. Conrad asked me to sing the response. Hey! I’m not a solo singer! But, I can definitely “say” the responses

Sunday was the AIMCAT as usual. This time it wasn’t as good as I hoped. Ran out of time for Maths. Maybe my stratergy needs to be revised. Also picked the wrong ones for DI and wasted time Better here than at the CAT.

Monday also was rather uneventful except that I dropped into bed at 9.30pm. It has been a long long time since I ever went to sleep so early. I guess I have been really exhausted as I do most of my computer work in the nights.

Did end up awaking around 1.30, checking mail and sites and VPS till 2.30pm and then going back to sleep again.
Woke up in the morning to find 37 emails saying Exim has failed. This is after the 137 that I got on Monday morning!
I have a feeling that the cPanel Update is messing up with Exim, as it has just repeated today itself.

Met up with the mouse on Tuesday, as she accompanied me to buy the entrance exams’ forms.

We first went to the SBI in Dadar, only to find out that their stupid computers were down and they weren’t giving any forms! X(

Next stop was Dena Bank in Worli for the NMIMS forms. Their procedure was smooth and simple.
Pay the money (a lot of it), take the forms and out you go!

We dropped of the bike at her place and then set off towards town for lunch at 5 Spice. They also have a joint at Bandra. Well, the food wasn’t up to the mark today. Guess it was just a bad day.

Spent some time with the mouse and then headed back home.

Slept post 1am last night as well. Tonight I’m going to try to make it before 12pm!

Haven’t had much time the past week to actually sit down and patiently blog.

So what have I been busy with?

Studies

For one, a good portion of my day has gone in studying. It can be both fun and frustrating at times!

My study partner came over one day and I went to her place the next day. Her mum cooks well

VPS

Besides the studies the rest of the day has been spent working on my new VPS. Once again I have decided to plunge into the world of VPSes. The last time I tried it out, I faced with much failure.

Gave up the idea of VPSes, but after the scam called Webhostplus (which took over Netbunch) X(, I was on the lookout for a good Reseller Plan or VPS. Always must have your sites spread out.
After a great deal of research I settled with Future Hosting.

Guess the bad luck of VPSes has followed me out here as well, because the the node on which my VPS was on gave some problems and my VPS in particular decided to act up!
The support out there (let me mention Vik in particular) were quick to act on this. Even better that a new VPS created for me on another server.

I’m back online again. Will be moving this blog there soon.

And this will be the new home of WebberZone.

And exams

Gave the AIMCAT this Sunday. Turned out to be a 180 mark paper. What I really like about T.I.M.E. is that every paper so far has been a surprise. This is really getting me mentally prepared to expect just about anything from the CAT.

The paper was good. Actually did a good deal of solving in DI. Verbal was a bit difficult and did run out of time for Maths.

Results are out Wednesday evening so will come to know how I stand.

So, that is how life stands currently.
Will try and keep this blog a lot more updated with my personal life. Also need a lot more pics online.

When I went to sleep at 1am on Monday morning, I thought I finally won the battle with my VPS for ajaydsouza.com

To cut a long story short, when I checked my site yesterday (Sunday) afternoon, I faced major problems accessing it. When I was able to all I got was No posts and loads of 404s.

Couldn’t do much all day long but sat with it after I returned home around 7.30pm.

Tried restarting the server to find that mysql wouldn’t start. Seems I was locked out of /tmp even without touching it!

Thankfully challii from AS Hosted came to my rescue and patiently help me debug. Temporarily changed the /tmp location to get mysql working and I was able to take a complete backup of this site.

He then moved the site to an account I have here. (Helps to have your own accounts at several hosts).

However, awaking this morning I found that it still threw a database error. Found out that the database hadn’t migrated due to differences between the phpMyAdmin and mySQL versions. Fixed all that and I am up online.

I’m a little disheartened by the entire VPS deal. Additionally, the staff where I currently have the VPS haven’t yet responded to the ticket. I know I troubled them in the past, but this time I didn’t even touch the account.
Am rather irritated and may move to another VPS.

However, this is some decision that is going to take a lot of pondering, especially since I will have to pay atleast $50/mo for this.

I don’t know if the server here will bear the load, am going to evaluate this for the next few days and then take a decision.

I should learn not to attempt anything with Apache or WHM, which I am not familiar with.

I tried to install phpSuExec today and in the process succeeded in crashing Apache.

Restoring an earlier backup from via VZPP just caused the VPS to crash completely.

This all resulting in over three hours of downtime

Thanks to the great folks from HostEasier who fixed it quickly.
I’ve promised them that I won’t be touching the server.

Will make an installation at home and play around as much as I can.

What is the best way I go about with all this?

Fortunately or unfortunately, the popularity of this site has gotten so high, that my host has started to complain that I am loading their server.

I don’t blame them because I can see my stats and was worried about it for a while.

I have already installed WP-Cache 2 but I don’t think it is helping that much.

Hence, the need for a good VPS. So folks out there who are using a VPS, please suggest a good, reliable and cost effective VPS provider. I’ve got a rather tight budget (unless my donations start increasing).

Please consider this to be a very urgent requirement!
