Happy New Year 2024 and 2023 In Review

[…]have kept bugs away (at least during my travels). What’s in store for 2024 I don’t make any New Year’s resolutions because I know I won’t keep them. However, I do aim to achieve a few things every year. This year, my key focus is to build up Beyond Develop. This will involve building pro versions for my two most used plugins and more frequent and smaller updates for the others. I’m also hoping to land one or two small projects where I can use my WordPress expertise. This should hopefully turn a profit in the first year. I still have […]

New Year, New Look

[…]of this blog with a new look from scratch. The old template has been there for well over a year (with modifications), and a change was needed. I have still retained some portion of the sidebar look as it goes well even with the new theme. I have disabled a good number of plugins, going with my idea of keeping plugins to the minimum. All posts now include Tabber which was pointed out to me by Everton. You can now view the related posts, search this site directly, view the next and previous post as well as read more about […]

Happy New Year 2021!

And what a year has it been! I’d like to wish you a Happy New Year 2021! Continuing my very long–standing tradition, below is a snapshot of my life in 2020. Life We started 2020 in India and have ended it in the UK. We started the year with freedom of movement and ended the year in Tier 4 restrictions (a kinder word for lockdown). One thing I hoped for at the start of last year was to get my driving license, which I’m pleased to say I did. We then went out to purchase a nice car that would accompany us […]

Happy New Year 2016

[…]the point of resolutions when you don’t keep them, right? On work… 2015 started out to be a year like any other year, busy and in fact ended as busy as it started. However, that being said a good portion of the year was definitely better with me stepping up my role and desperately fighting to maintain a work-life balance. On life… 2015 was a great year on the life front. We started off the year by moving into a new larger flat in the area. It was a long pending decision and we finally took the plunge trading our […]

Happy New Year 2018!

[…]through my list of posts for the past two years, I realised that I completely missed out a Happy New Year post for 2017. Can’t miss that two years in a row now, can we? 2017 – A Year in Review Life… I began 2017 in India, more specifically being ill in Bangalore where I (as did Ashwina) spent a good portion of the holiday in bed recovering from bad allergy attacks. Apparently I can’t handle the pollen and pollution anymore! At least it got better when I got back to Mumbai where we were soon well enough to attend […]

Happy New Year 2015!

[…]and happy year bringing you and your family good health and a lot of happiness! 2014 – Year in Review A year ago, I posted my 2013 year in review. Back then I set some personal goals and I must admit that I managed to miss most of them! (Note to self: Revisit year in review posts during the year). However, I am glad that I managed to keep at least a few of them and progressed on several of them. Although we didn’t visit the US and Canada this year due to a sudden change in plans, Ashwina and I made a visit to Cornwall and […]

Happy New Year 2010 & 2009 in Review

[…]all my dedicated readers a Very Very Happy and Prosperous New Year 2010! How did you bring in the new year? I spent it quietly at home. Looking back at 2009, I must say that it has been a rather successful year for me on all fronts. While I may not have achieved most of the goals I set for Techtites, it was definitely a lot better than 2008. I have refrained from setting any goals for this blog, primarily because it serves as a personal blog. At this time of the year, I normally make a very detailed post […]

Happy New Year

[…]up the readings. Next went off to pick up my sexy new trousers which were ready just in time for New Year’s mass. I got ready and went off for mass. We started the Thanksgiving service a bit late, and I did my readings, which went off rather well (IMHO). Next was mass which was said by a very fabulous, young, energitic prient named Fr. Gilbert Lima, who gave a beautiful sermon on love. Did I tell you that we were singing for mass? This went off rather well for me, inspite of not having gone for practise on Tuesday. […]

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year to all my blog readers. How did you celebrate your New Year? I decided to take it light this year and only went for the midnight mass with my family. Had plans on morning mass, but just later changed my mind. We did have pizza last night before mass 🙂 The mass was good but long as expected. 2006 has been a long and good year for my parish with a good deal of achievements. 2007 has been declared the year for the marginalized. Unfortunately, couldn’t get any good photos because of the bad lighting etc. A […]

New Year Shopping

[…]bought myself, a new spectacles frame, with anti-glare lens. This isn’t exactly for Xmas or New Year, but the timing is good. I also plan on buying myself contact lens after I narrow down on my choice. (Sadly  🙁 I will have to pay for this, but I believe it an invest worth making) Next on the list was a trouser matching my blazer. Went off to Cambridge in Andheri West to buy one (same place I bought the blazer from). We found one, but being the tally I am, I needed to find something longer or get it stitched. […]

Happy New Year!

[…]during one and it came out very good. Went off to U. Conrad’s place after mass to bring in the New Year there. The party was good fun as it usually is. Had to restrict myself to only water and cold drinks would be very cold for me. As usual, food was delicious and I ate a good amount. Danced a great deal. Did the jive, salsa, waltz and the cha cha cha uptil four in the morning. Am learning a lot of dance; you never know when you will need it. Returned home by 4am. Sleeping has been a […]

It’s been a year!

[…]Toubro and will now soon be confirmed to the Executive cadre 😀 Must say it has been a fantastic year. Have learnt a real lot in this last one year and have been given good responsibility. Never really expected to like designing but today I love it and will definitely stick with it for a while. And then again after I became a Management Trainee I have had a lot more to look forward to […]

First Working Day of the Year

Yesterday was the first working day of the year and I am glad that the year started of on a good note. Have been struggling with something all of last week and yesterday it worked ! Had a small office get-to-gether yesterday during office which was pretty mediocre. Didn’t expect otherwise, but was a welcome break from work. Left at 6.15pm from work yesterday as timings were increased. Surprisingly there wasn’t much traffic and I reached home well before 8pm much to the shock of my mom. Made it for choir practice. There weren’t many persons there to practice and […]

New York calling!

[…]I’ve always wanted to come down for a holiday to New York and this one has eluded me for several years. New York, I’m here! Ashwina and I took our annual holiday to India in March this year. We stayed at the ITC Maratha in Mumbai for more than a week followed by a trip to Mangalore and then Pune. We then had two weddings to attend – one in Athens and the second in Helsinki. But, I must admit that I’ve been waiting very eagerly to come to New York. We were quite late in getting much of our […]

A Week went by with some New Lookers

[…]The latest ones could also do with many feature additions. So stay tuned for a few releases 🙂 New look for Techtites I’ve also been working on a brand new look for Techtites. With the help of Moin, I’ve been able to revamp the entire site to a much better template. Have spent a good portion of the week working on the template. The first and major step was making the theme ready for WordPress 2.7 commenting system. There’s still much to be done, especially the sidebar. Better ad placements has also meant a better click thru and so a […]

New York – Views from the Top

[…]turned out to have some really good food in well-sized portions. Remains the best food I ate in New York. After the failed attempt to view New York from Top of the Rock, we decided to try again. It seems like many others also had the same idea as we only got tickets for little over an hour later. We figured out getting some other things out of the way to kill time. Primarily taking a walk down 6th avenue to find our way to Grand Central Station. Grand Central Station is yet another landmark in New York that would […]

WP Ajax Edit Comments – New Author

[…]plugin will receive a good portion of my time daily. I have currently updated the plugin with the new ownership details and svn upped the same in the WordPress Repository. Many of you would have been able to update the plugin from within your WordPress Admin. This version includes no changes other than the change in ownership and the new plugin page, readme.txt and other details. Ronald has already redirected all links on his site to the plugin page out here on my blog, so if you’re wondering why you are here suddenly, this is probably the reason. Support for […]

A new website for my photos

[…]domain AjayDSouza.info, I decided to move the location for my photos. In fact, until August last year, AjayDSouza.info served as a secondary location for displaying my photos. It was powered by a script that fetched my albums from Flickr. However, I wasn’t too pleased by the script and so didn’t bother to promote the site. I decided to hunt for a new script today and came across Glickr. Glickr is an extremely easy to use, smal, but very powerful script for displaying photos from Flickr. AjayDSouza.info will now serve as the primary location for display of my photos. With a […]

[…]sidebar, pages, comments and other features that I have maintained across themes across several years. Not to forget the ads that help sustain this blog. Lastly, SexyBookmarks WordPress Plugin does deserve a major mention for it is extremely feature rich and with minimal interference allows you to share content of this blog with your friends through the most popular social networking sites. You are recommending these posts, aren’t you? I’ve also included a neat little array of buttons at the top of each post, you can quickly share our posts on Facebook and Google Plus. New Christmassy Look

A New Television

We have finally bought a new television. After researching and visiting a lot of stores, we narrowed down to Plugin, which is near my place. We purchased the Samsung CZ-21K5 (don’t ask me what this stands for) Features include: Pure Flat TV 200 Programs 300W PMPO 5 Band Graphic Equalizer Basically, it’s packed with many features. However, I have just DD1 and DDNews, i.e. no cable and so having 200 channels is kinda useless. Maybe in the distant future… I still have to connect my VCD Player to the TV so that finally I can watch my VCDs on the […]

A New Look for MegaThemes

Finally! After many many months, I have updated my site MegaThemes. A brand new look with a slightly different shade of blue. I scrapped many unused scripts like the newsletter and the forum. I added a tell-a-friend. A major addition has been a wallpaper on “The Passion of the Christ“. You can get it from here. I have also revamped the Freeware Archive. Changed to an easier to use but very good PaFileDB. Now the major work that remains is adding the programs to the archive, which I don’t think I will be doing for a few months at least! […]

Settling into the new House

[…]after we settled our bills at the guesthouse, we hired cabs and headed to what will become our new home. I hired a Meru cab, which is more easily available here in Bangalore than in Mumbai, where you struggle to find one. It was a nice comfortable journey. At the same time, my goods from Mumbai also arrived. Was a little irritated that the boxes weren?t plastic coated like they were supposed to be and one box had broken open. The bike handle was also bent a bit. Will have to get this fixed. First, I got to get the […]

My New Blog!

Today, October 1, 2003. I just installed my new blog using WordPress. This is the start of a long-awaiting personal website. I am still thinking on a a name for the site, however, I wanted to create a semi-formal site and hence believe this blog will add the informality to my normally professional sites. I am not much of a writer, so I may be writing about once a week or whenever in the mood. Will close this short entry about now, as I not have to go to bed. There’s a long day ahead tommorrow (though it is already […]

New Website

After the closing down of DistantHost, I have been forced to shift to paid hosting. So that’s exactly what I have done. Bought a $40/yr package from Dr2.net after recommendations from friends at SurfUnion Also purchased the domain AjayDSouza.com from GoDaddy for $8.75/yr Now all that remains is designing the site around it. This blog is also being shifted there as I post. I can use the space at Mg2 for some other site of mine 🙂 Will keep posting updates as the site […]

New WordPress Plugin: Top 10

Last week I gave you Contextual Related Posts and Moderation Author Notify. Have spent almost the whole of this week rewriting Mark’s original Top 10 plugin. And, that sure has been a rather interesting, frustrating and of course fulfilling journey in PHP in general and WordPress in particular and I still believe I’ve not even scratched the surface of PHP, SQL and WordPress! Anyway, I began with duplicating the original functionality of the plugin, however, ensuring that this strictly followed the latest Plugin API recommended by WordPress. So, a few things that were changed / added were: The table to […]

As an additional feature, Add to Footer also comes inbuilt with support for Google Analytics, StatCounter, Reinvigorate and Apture. If you use any of these services, you can fill in the relevant details in the plugins options page and the plugin will add the necessary code for the same on your blog. These […]

New WordPress Plugin: Better Search

Though WordPress does provide users the ability to search your blog, it is highly limited in any features. Additionally, all it does is a simple search for the term and lists the post in descending order of their post dates. It may so happen that a user may not even find a relevant search result. This is where Better Search comes in. Weblog Tools Collection has an improved search system that allows users to search for posts based on their content and relevance. I’ve adapted the code by Mark into a plugin for easy installation on your WordPress blog. Better […]

ajaydsouza.com has a new look. Still need your suggestions

If you’re reading this in your feed reader, then hit this link now. I mentioned earlier that I moved this blog to Media Temple yesterday. However, on monitoring the same, I have realized that I am still not at optimum levels. I’m not really sure what the reason for the super high resource usage is, but it is usually the themes and the plugins. So, as a test, I have decided to change the theme in an attempt to find a really light one. One of my most read blogs is Weblog Tools Collection, and in a recent post, I […]

Still have a bad cough and I am going to sing for New Year:O Went off for a shave today and my barber asked me if I look back to 2004 with happiness or sorrow. Reading update (Jan 2023)

[…]update. I finished 2022 with about 60 books or about double the target I set at the start of the year. This year I’ve set a target of 40 books and as we close out January, I’ve finished four books and am currently reading my 5th book. As I didn’t mention the 20 books that I read since August, I thought I’d use this post as a summary to update you on what I’ve been reading for the past 5 months. If you’ve been following my last few reading updates, you’ll know that I am a big fan of series […]

Looking back on 2005

[…]a good deal of it partying with the Goan Association gettogether, the Christmas dance and the New year celebrations, besides a lot of outings, dinners and movies! Overall I think this year was pretty good. Except for a few frustrating moments and times when things didn’t work out, I have done a lot. Work has been tiring but I have learnt and established a good deal. On the personal front I know I have grown in many ways. I have made many more friends but lost a few :(. On the social front I have been overactive! Have definitely improved […]

Life Update (2022 edition)

[…]drive in during those days. Helps avoid close interactions in the overcrowded tube and bus. This year is an important year, so wish me luck! Health It’s probably the first time I’ve put a separate a separate category for this. I started the year in recovery after a turbinate reduction operation which has massively improved my breathing. I still have to undertake a sleep study in the next couple of months but we’ll cross that bridge then. In February, I got diagnosed with appendicitis and as luck would have it, the issue wasn’t straightforward that is most familiar to everyone. […]

Plan on spending the rest of the day blogging. May also work on a plugin or two if I have the energy! So, what have you been upto this New […]

WordCamp Europe 2024 Recap – Experiences of a first time attendee

[…]meetups incredibly fun. Getting ready for WCEU I had planned to attend WordCamp London last year, but it was cancelled due to costs. So, this year, I decided to take the plunge and book my way to Turin to attend WCEU 2024. I booked my flights and hotel in February. I had hesitated to book the hotel and could not get the NH Lingotto, which was closest to the venue. I booked the AC Hotel which is about 10 minutes away and was still available at a discount. I used my last Amex voucher along with my miles to book […]

I also finished the Jon Reznick and the American Ghost series. Have you read any of these? Would love to hear your views. Also note that the links to Amazon contain my affiliate code. We were also celebrating my dad’s mother’s 90th birthday, albeit a few months after she turned 90! We also had Dad and Arun coming down from Toronto along with Ferdy and his family. The surrounding gardens and woodland walks add to the enchantment of this historic gem. It’s also a place we had visited last year. This time we were accompanied by Ashwina’s parents who are staying with us for a few months. Scotney Castle Yet another place that we returned to for the third time. So what is ajaydsouza.com all about?

[…]to wrap up this post, here’s what I have been up to recently: Vincent and me when shopping for a new laptop he needed to buy. We ended up picking up the Gateway ID series laptop. It is a really beautiful high-end laptop at just about 50K. As for me, I’m a Dell person. This December, my beautiful, but now old, Inspiron 6400 should get a much needed cleanup. I hope Dell support is as good as it was a year back! We also attempted to visit the Pizza Hut in Forum, but they are under renovation. So, we ate […]

Shopping and eating

Little above a year back, a young man of 20 something, having finished a year at his new job, received the good news of his secondment to London. In preparation for his six weeks in London, the young man set out to a few shops in the city to buy the necessary attire for the new job profile that he would be in. On 3 May 2010, this young man took his first long haul flight from Bangalore to London. As he walked out of the airplane and took the cab to his apartment, he fell in love with the […]

Scotland Calling: Edinburgh

[…]Town and New Town. You can find the Royal Mile in the Old Town and several shops and stores in the New Town.   We covered most of old town and new town in a few hours. Most of Edinburgh had shut by Sunday evening. So we stuck to visiting the Princes Street Gardens and an evening walk down the Royal Mile.   If you’re in Edinburgh, then you have to make a trip to Edinburgh Castle. Located at one end of the Royal Mile, the site of the castle dates back to 9the century BC, with early reports of […]

The Day after Christmas

[…]sing for a mini-fest that happens every year. Was really shocked to see how low scale it was this year. I guess this was probably because we had other major church activities this year. The choir wasn’t at full strength, many had sore voices, but I think we came out quite well. Just that we were singing to an almost empty audience! Dropped Madam A off to a friends place after the singing before heading back home. Had planned on visiting a doctor but I think I’m doing fine. Have to go to work now. The last week of this […]

Mumbai Calling – December 2011

[…]place all lit up and decorated. I usually spend Christmas in Mumbai with an exception being last year, when I was stuck in London waiting for my visa. This year, I booked my tickets in early August to take advantage of prices when booking early. I must admit that I am sceptical of this so called price advantage! Come December, as expected the pressures at work go through the roof as everyone tries to complete 31 days work in 15 before Europe and the UK starts to slow down for the holiday period. In my line of work, the word […]

Long time no post

First three vacation days

Christmas is the time of the year I’ve always looked out for. This year has been a very fulfilling year, which I shall write about in a future post. I took my core leave from 18 Dec to 3 Jan, which is the longest duration of leave that I have ever taken till date! Had booked the tickets in August itself, so it was only the matter of getting to the airport. Unlike last time, where my cab arrived early and the plane was late, I reached the airport at 10am on Friday. They have become a lot stricter at […]

Stories about Castles and Gardens – Part 2

[…]to Knole and exploring other parts of the estate – probably once the weather gets better next year. Sissinghurst Castle Garden This is a relatively new property compared to the other ones that we visited. Vita Sackville-West, the poet and writer, began transforming Sissinghurst Castle in the 1930s with her diplomat and author husband, Harold Nicolson. We spent a lot of time in the vegetable garden with our little one venturing out on foot on the soft grass. I also climbed all the way to the top of the tower to capture some photographs of the entire estate. And this […]

Migrated to The SEO Framework

[…]me to configure the SEO settings, one feature I enjoyed is the readability analysis. But, over the years, the plugin has it has also grown in size and included ads and notifications. I have generally not minded these and understand the need to monetize. However, when you delete a post or almost anything else, the plugin displays an annoying notification. It prompts you to install the premium version of Yoast SEO to redirect the deleted content. I could live with this for a long time. However, the final straw came today as I spent a good portion of today going […]

Escape to Cornwall – 2021 edition

[…]for our entire stay there. On the second day, we set out on the Southwest Coast Path towards New Polzeath. Although the distance via the Path was not significant, it was quite intense at some places due to sharp inclines and declines. I did remember some of the landscape from our previous trip – there have hardly been any changes over the past several years. Three days later we went out for a hike to The Rumps, which is a twin-headland promontory just a short distance from the cottage. During our last visit, we had bypassed this as we chose […]

Holiday in Mumbai

[…]on our annual visit to Mumbai and Pune on Feb 1. In 2018, we visited India in March. However, this year we decided to stick to our Feb schedule. To Mumbai We booked ourselves on premium economy with British Airways as this was the best deal we could find. Unfortunately, as I did the bookings in October, we couldn’t take advantage of the reward flights and the Amex BA voucher. Speaking about reward flights, I feel that British Airways has gotten quite miserly about them! I’ve always loved Heathrow Terminal 5 and we took advantage of my status to use […]

I’ve made significant progress having driven comfortably across the narrow and wide roads of London. But, we’re still a bit away from getting our driving license. And, even if we did, I doubt that we would drive down this cottage. We took the GWR service from London Paddington before noon and changed at Exeter St Davids for Barnstaple. Coming here reminded me of our last trip in August 2016 […]

2006 – I think it was Good

Looking back at 2006, I think the year went well. It has been a very healthy year for my blog for sure. I hit into the top 100,000 websites on Alexa and today stand in the top 50,000. Good achievement for a small blog of a small person on the WWW 🙂 But, I do have a very very fluctuating rank as you can see in the graph above. I know a lot of users believe that Alexa is flawed, and i think so too, but at the end of the day, its the rank that gets the advertisers! Site […]

A Merry Greek Christmas

[…]life associated Christmas. It is little wonder that I look forward to Christmas every year. This year, Christmas was different. Different because, for the first time in my life I was not at home for Christmas. I began Christmas this year by going to Westminster Cathedral for the 6pm mass on 24th. The church was decorated with a huge Christmas tree, but it was also rather cold, since Christmas Eve was cold this side of the world. Met up with a college pal for a quiet dinner. Was home before the clock struck 12. Pavlos had invited me over for […]

Movies I’ve watched these two months

Here, Will Salas finds himself accused of murder and on the run with a hostage – a connection that […]

Until then… Happy birthday to me […]

India Diaries – The 2024 Edition – with a twist

[…]the last two weeks of January to be on holiday. We flew to Bangalore overnight and landed at the new terminal, designed as a “terminal in the garden”. We had booked IndiGo for our flight to Pune. However, we discovered that we had to change terminals to the old one which was quite far away and required a bus ride. Fortunately, based on our experience, we hired two porters who helped us reach the terminal and get checked in without any hassle. The last time, we had a horrible experience with SpiceJet, which is now forever on our no-fly list. […]

Freaky Friday on Saturday

[…]inside the wrong bodies. As they literally walk a mile in each other’s shoes, they gain a little newfound respect for the other’s point of view. But with Tess’s wedding coming on Saturday, the two have to find a way to switch back – and fast. My comments as usual. The acting of both Jamie and Lindsay are commendable. Lots of funny parts in the movie when the two have to behave their exact opposite due to the body switch. A few touching moments as well when you see the love they have for each other and their family despite […]

Room 103 – All Placed!

[…]upload them to my Flickr album when I do so. Anyway, we reached college at 2.30am, which excluding New Year’s last year is one of the latest I’ve returned. The last few days have been as lazy as it has been. One extremely irritating thing is the lack of a proper internet connection because our excellent network folks (I shudder to use the word admin) are busy experimenting with the wifi adapters. I plan on writing a really dirty post about this so called “wifi connectivity” that is promised students out here. Made a 30 mark worth presentation yesterday for […]

Mumbai calling 2011

[…]up with Cloreisha after a long long time at Mocha Mojo in Bandra. Mocha’s definitely has a whole new atmosphere now that hookahs have been banned in Mumbai. Another stupid rule after the “no serving alcohol to persons below 25”. I am waiting for Starbucks to set up shop in Mumbai. Dinner was back at my Grandma’s place, who is always enthusiastic to order in! So, I had my first taste of Indian Chinese cuisine after a long time. Last year, I had a very sad birthday stuck at work till 2am. This time was a lot different. I brought […]

A Devon Getaway

[…]to avoid the mad rush and crazy prices. The raging pandemic made it a much easier decision this year. Ashwina booked a cottage called the Higher Brownstone Farm in Devon. This is a massive cottage close to Coleton Fishacre. Whilst we have been to Devon a few times including the lovely lighthouse cottage, this region has been off our radar until now. While the Coleton Fishacre house is from the 1920s, the Higher Brownstone Farm dates back to the 18th century and used to be occupied by a gentleman farmer. The house has been refurbished a few times especially to […]

At the time of this post, nearly 250 people have told their life stories to the world. I am now one of them! If you’re a regular reader of this blog, you will read a lot about my life. My yearly reviews hint at what I have been working on i.e. my WordPress plugins. But, this is the first time I have written about my WordPress journey. Do read and comment. I’d love to hear from you. Happy B’day to Me!

16th August. Considered to be a very important day in my life, my birthday. This year, it was spent at work. Woke up usual time and went off to work. Was wished by quite a few of my colleagues at breakfast. We returned back to find that we are locked out of our Design Lab, as there was some problem with the lock. Till a lot of timepass for nearly and hour, before they finally got the door open. Still more timepass after that, as I roamed all over the department distributing Eclairs. Got straight back to work and completed […]

Also got my CAT results yesterday. Was stunned to see a 85.87 Percentile. Stunned because I hadn’t even touched my books and still managed a decent score. Maybe if I […]

But when I went to the checkout counter was […]

It is better integrated and you can now sort the views easily across all your posts/pages and custom post types. You can continue to view the counts in your posts / pages listings as earlier. In addition to the new admin interface, […]

Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island

[…]Ellis Island. The journey to Ellis Island is also short and it looks just the same as it over 100 years ago when the first immigrants found their way into the land of opportunity. Ellis Island also has an excellent visual tour that tells all about immigration over several hundred years into America. There is actually quite a bit to see in Ellis Island, but we were quite tired by then having been on our feet for several hours. We decided to call it and headed to catch the ferry to Battery Park. Wall Street By then the clouds had […]

WordPress Upgraded

[…]blog. So, this is the new look. Made this background, because of Christmas. Will change it in the New Year. Have also installed two anti-spam plugins for the blog. The first is Kitten’s Spaminator. Spam prevention and blocking using tarpitting and strike counting. Comments are assigned strikes for spam content, and a comment that meets the criteria for spam is blocked from posting. The second is SpamWord Block. If activated, any comments that contain a Spam word will be refused immediately. This checks the comment text, author, URL, email, and IP (so, you can even block IP’s). Hopefully, all my […]

Life in four days…

[…]better ;)). Got home by 12am and was up by 6am. But, had a good sleep in the bus today. Made my New Year resolution that if I have to travel by bus, I take good advantage of the fact that I can sleep. Have kept the resolution very well so far 🙂 Nikhil‘s sister Ritu collected my degree certificate from the University, so have saved myself the trouble of going there myself this weekend. So, can just pick it up from her on Saturday. Have just finished yet another day at work. The day was rather fulfilling. Have been […]

Emmaus Encounter

[…]that I was looking forward to. I was also surprised when I learnt that both the Old and the New Testaments are similarly structured into four groups viz. Law, History, Wisdom and Prophesy. Oh, btw the shortest verse in the Bible is John 11:35 (Jesus Wept). Also went for confession in the morning. We have been taught to have dialogue confessions and to concentrate on one sin at the time. So, that is just what I did 😀 Also had a very heart to heart talk with Francis on a matter very close to my heart (lots of hearts here […]

The Events of the Week

[…]all. I went to Government Polytechnic in Bandra to complete the formalities for CET 2007. Last year I had headed off to this place after standing in a long line at SPCE and expected a small line this time too. This was not to be as when we got there we were at the entrance of the building and had to climb another three floors. The result was a long wait of four hours before the work could get done. Also ended up joining others in shouting at shameless people who broke the line. Sure can be pissing off. But, […]

Knowledgebase v1.3.0

[…]an update of Knowledgebase v1.3.0. Knowledgebase is my relatively new plugin that I released last year when building WebberZone. It’s designed to be very simple to use to set up your own Knowledgebase. The latest release incorporates a very important uninstall feature. You can now choose to delete options when you uninstall the plugin and/or delete all knowledgebase data. This is if you want to completely clean out all articles as well as sections and categories, you’d select the section option. This does effectively mean that you’re nuking your knowledgebase and can only be restored if you chose to backup your […]

The White Cliffs of Dover and Hever Castle

[…]high speed and narrow. Was great fun to drive there, both testing the limits of the car and my newbie driving skills. The castle and the grounds are well maintained with the wider “complex” also serving as a venue for hire. We also spend some time roaming around the beautiful gardens – greenery just a few miles away from the hustle and bustle of London. The journey back turned out to be a little bit longer when I missed an exit and ended up driving deeper into the amazing countryside. I did fill up the tank at the Shell station […]

Definitely not a rested day!

[…]can get a new chain cover put as well. Only problem is that the clasps holding them had broken and new ones needed to be done. The bike was taken for welding and I spent a good half hour waiting. Also got a new helmet lock put to replace the broken old one. Lots of repairs and a lot of good money spent. But, I am glad with how things have turned out. The bike is as good as new now (excluding a nice cleaning that she needs). Going to (hopefully) spent the rest of today resting […]

However, the outlet in Bandra wasn’t running the offer that is being run at the outlet here in Andheri. So, […]

Closing the holiday with Montreal

Montreal was the last part of our two week holiday in September that began in New York and continued in Canada. We decided to drive from Toronto to Montreal which in retrospect is not for regular train travellers like Ashwina and myself. Two hours into the drive and I realised that I had forgotten the bag which had my laptop, iPad and most importantly my specs and contact lens. If it wasn’t for the latter two, we could have just carried on. However, this big mistake cost us dearly as we had to drive back to Toronto to pick the […]

College Website coming soon!

[…]am on this beautiful 1st morning. 10.30 am wouldnt be so much of a problem, but after a tiring New Year, it was a bit too early. My dad told me that some professor was calling. I picked up the phone (half asleep as I did it) to find Dayanand Ambavade sir at the other end of it. He informed me that I was on the list to design the college website and if it was possible to reach by 11! I said 11.15 and so got ready quickly and rushed off to college. In college I found Sumit, Kuldeep […]

Colin

Can’t say I began this New Year on a happy note. Woke up this morning with the news of U. Colin‘s (my dear friend Clayton‘s dad) demise. He was in Dubai and suffered a major heart attack. This has come as a major shock to all of us. U. Colin was a real sweetheart and was very dear to me and I was very fond of him. It was through him, that I met Melody. May his soul rest in peace. And may the light of God shine upon his family during these times. […]

So what are you doing this Christmas?

[…]am not sure which option to follow. For the past four years I have been spending Christmas and New Year with my choir. It has usually be low key affairs with private parties held at someone’s house. I never had a date nor did I know how to dance hence the rule-out of popular places like Willingdon or Bandra Gym. Times have changed and now I do know how to dance (a bit). Unsure as to how I plan to spend the evenings, which might be with the choir. Melody made me a very tempting offer of Catholic Gym. Though, […]

Filling the Bubbles and more…

[…]me of the times at Agrawal’s for my HSC classes. This time I was a lot more prepared than last year and hence attempted the paper better I believe. However, I don’t think I did well enough to get me into JB, but time will tell. The paper was a lot more calculation intensive this time. However, there was a pattern that I observed. There were many sets of five questions which has all the different five answer choices within that set. Hence, if I knew four, I guessed the fifth. No negative marks definitely helps! On the downside, you […]

The First Fortnight at SCMHRD

The primary purpose is to introduce us to each other and get to know the persons in the batch. It also aims to foster team work with a great number of team games and introduction sessions. It was simply put, really good. The OBL was held at a small place called Lekha Farms, which is located on NH4 (the highway connecting Pune and Mumbai). We […]

Techtites, Blogging and College

[…]had sufficient free time to pursue other things, e.g my blogging which had gone dead in the past year. For starters, I got about revamping Techtites. Also spent whole of Sunday preparing blog posts for Techtites. My next step would be to work on this blog and see what I can do with it. Evening in Fresher’s Day. After being postponed time and time again for the past week the date and details have been finalized. It sure is fun to see the “costumes” that people wear for a simple event like this. As for me, a simple shirt and […]

To be sung to the tune of “Santa Claus is coming to Town” You’d better watch out You’d better not cry You’d better keep cash I’m telling you why: Recession is coming to town. It’s hitting you once, It’s hitting you twice It doesn’t care if you’ve been careful and wise Recession is coming to town It’s worthless if you’ve got shares It’s worthless if you’ve got bonds It’s safe when you’ve got cash in hand So keep cash for goodness sake, HEY You’d […]

A Long Saturday

[…]global warming as well as get to his young son in New York, which is being taken over by the new ice age. The filming is amazing. Loved the scene where the Statue of Liberty and then New York city goes under water. The acting is really superior, but the film does tend to get slow and boring at times. You have just about every natural disaster in the movie, viz. tornadoes, hurricanes, hail storms, earthquake, tidal waves and floods. Breaking away from the sci-fi theme, the film also touches upon the concept of father-son bonding (which did tend to […]

It’s Christmas Time!

For Proclamation, Chrisanne started off with Emmanuel and we repeated it. For Peace, we sang Gift of Gift of Peace. This was also new, and we had a horrible time hitting the starting note. Thankfully, we were able to do so correctly. Of course, I did have to do octave switching, so that I didn’t sound false. For Communion we took Silent Night (in Konkani), Cradle Song, […]

Open Browser Window updated to v1.2.1

[…]browser window with the URL of the page that you specified using JavaScript. Opening a page in a new window using JavaScript is a preferred method over using target="_blank" due to XHTML compliance issues. This is a major update. For one, this plugin has been lying in the WordPress plugin repository since even before the repository existed in this form. So, I cleaned up the files and folders to conform them to the current use of the repository. A quicktags button titled “OBW” has also been added which you can use in the HTML tab when composing a new post […]

Weekend movie and lots of work!

[…]turned out to be a really crappy alternative, when they found it “not feasible” to give us a new connection. We were surprised at the efficiency and speed of BSNL, which, despite being a government firm, has some very efficient staff. Airtel has turned out to be a rather painful connection when I received a message a few days back billing me 50 bucks for downloading some game that I didn’t even know existed. Calling up the helpline is rather useless, nor is visiting their help center. I’ve been asked to check back on the day of the new billing […]

The Brooklyn Bridge

If you’re in New York, especially for the first time, walking across the Brooklyn Bridge should definitely be on your to-do list. It was on ours and we parked it for the last day. I had started the day by meeting an old friend at One World Trade Center. After this, Ashwina and I set out. On our way there, we stopped by a really expensive Greek restaurant which appeared to be well rated. I keep thinking that Manhattan has a separate standard when it comes to food and the expensiveness of said food. We saved our energy for the […]

Hello Toronto

I posted about New York a few weeks back. And although it has been several months since our visit to Canada, and I’ve been meaning to make a few posts on the time we spent in Toronto, Niagara Falls and Montreal. So, without further ado, a short post on a fun day in Toronto. We reached Toronto on Saturday and went over to Ferdy and Anita’s house for dinner. They live about 20-30 minutes from my dad’s place in Toronto. The drive was not too bad and traffic was limited being a weekend. After a good evening of food, drink […]

From Mumbai to Pune

After a week in Mumbai, Ashwina and I set off to Pune to spend time at her place with her Mom and Dad. I like going to Pune because, unlike Mumbai, I get to spend a lot of time resting and relaxing. As expected, this holiday also delivered the same. I even had time to work on my WordPress plugins as well as catch up on office work. Purchasing a car Ashwina planned to buy a car in Pune for her parents to replace a very old Maruti Suzuki Alto. She had shortlisted the Maruti Suzuki Ignis and we had […]

Whatever you enter here will only be displayed when viewing a post (or page for that set of options). What’s next? In the next version of the plugin, I’d like to a snippets manager. This would be implemented via a custom post […]

Journey to the Isle of Wight

We’ve typically taken a holiday in September but due to several different reasons, Ashwina and I decided to book the first week of October for a holiday. Destination: Isle of Wight. This post has been due for two months, but, as they say, better late than never! I had been looking forward to this holiday for a long time given our previous holiday was in April. After 6 extremely busy months at work with a tonne of travel, I needed this holiday. We took a train from London Waterloo to Portsmouth (one of our shortest train journeys in the UK). […]

India Diaries 2023: Return with Innocence

[…]very quickly. I made a day trip to Mumbai in the middle of the week to complete bank work, order new spectacles, and visit my grandma, uncle and aunt whom I hadn’t seen for over three years. I had hired a car to take me there and back. Keeping in line with the rest of the holiday, as we reached Navi Mumbai, the car started to give problems. Luckily my driver had family living there and he swapped his car for another one while his family took care of fixing his car. Unfortunately, this took a long time even after […]

Great Viva Today

Music to your ears

You can check the stats Winning this award, has once again put the theme on the winner page. It has been winning this award time and again right from 22-03-2002, which means nearly 2 years. 😀 If you haven’t yet downloaded it, you can get it from […]

Kal Ho Naa Ho

After finishing off my vivas successfully, I went to watch one of the big Bollywood hits of this year, viz. Kal Ho Naa Ho at Fun Republic. The movie stars one of my favourite actors Shahrukh Khan. It also stars Preity Zinta, Saif Ali Khan and Jaya Bachan. It is a very beautiful and touching story, where Saif falls for Priety, who falls for Shahrukh, who falls for her. However, Shahrukh has little time to live and so doesn’t acknowledge his love and instead brings the other two together. The movie has its times of happiness, laughter and also its […]

Of Samurais and Chinese

[…]the ending was like a Bollywood movie, this is indeed the best movie I have watched so far this year. (LOTR:ROTK yet to come 😉 ) My rating: 9/10 After the movie, went off to Delicacies of China in Lokhandwala for dinner. A small resteraunt with excellent food and service. My first visit there and I was impressed. Finally got back home around 11.15 pm. Tired so I shall wind up here and go off to […]

Cause I had the time of my life!

Having met Melody last year, I finally met the most beautiful girl I know today to do up her website Glorify-God.com. So, I rode off to her place around 10.30 am. Reached there, and immediately left from there with her to pick up the brides-maid’s gown which she will be wearing tommorrow at her best friend Janice‘s wedding. We had breakfast at 11.30am at the Shiv Sagar in Bandra. Next went off to Janice’s place to drop off the other gowns. Returned back to Mello’s place again to continue with the website work. We were interrupted again, this time an […]

Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is usually that time of the year, when sales of ‘romantic items’ like cards and gifts shoot through the roof. Being the single guy I am, Valentine’s day has always been spending time with people close to me, be it family or friends. This Valentine’s Day wasn’t very much different. Awoke with no plans, but then went off to watch Maqbool followed by Something’s Gotta Give. Maqbool turned out to be pretty ordinary despite the hype. It is a Bollywood adaptation of Shakespeare’s Macbeth. Something’s Gotta Give is a romantic comedy starring Jack Nicholson, Diane Keaton and Keanu […]

We won again!

[…]festival, it gave us great apprehension as this was home ground, we were the only Final Year students, lots of senior professors were present for it and lastly, we had to a WIN:O Well, we did in the end. Must confess that it was one really amazing presentation, with a full lab of faculty and students showering us with questions! A good prize indeed with certis as well a cash prize 🙂 After the presentation, I went for choir practise, after a brief stopover at home, again at 7 followed by the same ritual of yesterday. Went to Melody‘s place […]

The Easter Story

Easter this year is a little different from the past few Easters. Firstly, I spent it alone, as my family is away and secondly, I went out for dinner with the choir and then mass in the morning! Dinner was at Jade in Poonam Nagar and I went there first at 11 to make sure they don’t shut the doors before the rest arrived. It was partly Elton‘s treat and we payed part. Had a big feast, with lots of noise, much to the irritation of the owners. But, they sure must have been really glad because we worked up […]

Results

[…]really bad this sem, and we were all scared about the results. I got a First Class for the final year, and I was much relieved and very happy. It meant that I get a First Class on my BE certificate as well as my job is secure. Nikhil went to college on Tuesday and called and told me my results from there. I got 68% which was way more than I expected. I also got a 97/100 in my Project, which I know is way too high 🙂 It’s finally done and I am officially an Electronics […]

Weekend Finally

[…]😉 Christmas… is finally just around the corner. Won’t be very different from other years I presume, except for the mass, which is going to be very good and ofcourse, now that I don’t have any college or exams (which always happened in December), I can truly enjoy this year. Have already brought in the Christmas here at work (atleast on my PC). Have been downloading wallpapers of the Internet for my PC here 🙂 Here are small thumbnails of them below. You can get their full versions here. Have also mailed these to everyone on my list, including those […]

Still Sniff Sniff

[…]The Forgotten. A grieving mother, Telly Paretta, is struggling to cope with the loss of her 9-year-old son. She is stunned when her psychiatrist and her husband tell her that she has created eight years of memories of a son she never had. But when she meets the father of one of her son’s friend who is having the same experience, Telly embarks on a mission to prove her son’s existence and her sanity. Surprisingly, it turned out to be a kinda sci-fi flick. Was a very slow movie and had a good ending, if you had the patience to […]

Home Alone – Part II

Home Alone – Part I happened last year when my parents and bro were in Muscat and I was left back due to college. Home Alone – Part II is because my parents and brother have gone to Kerala for some work for almost one month and so I shall left all alone at home. I don’t really spend much time at home anyways, mainly due to office work. But, it’s gonna be good fun to live all by myself. With it also comes the daily chores which I am really pathetic at (prospective brides please disregard this sentence). Well…. […]

A Day at Work

[…]tour of our company. Wasn’t very surprised to see that not much has changed in the past one year. We were asked the same questions we asked our seniors. A good amount of these will be coming here because of the high man-power requirement that we have. I’ve enjoyed. I’m sure many of these will 🙂 On the return journey, I treated the persons in my bus to Monginis on account of my […]

Bike or bus?

I’m back to my dilema of last year. Should I take my bike or the bus to work? Both have their pros and cons. Pros of the bike: 1. I save almost an hour both ways 2. I have the flexibility of timing (especially returning home) 3. Taking the bike works out a bit cheaper than the bus. Cons of the bike: 1. Riding is a tiring job especially since the total distance is 54Kms both ways. 2. Roads are bad! 3. I cannot sleep on the way 😉 Pros of the bus: 1. Can sleep peacefully (at least in […]

The Week ends!

[…]even realize. Had practice on Monday, prayer meeting on Tuesday. It was the first one for the year and began with exposure to the Blessed Sacrament. Adoration was uptil 9pm. I missed the start because of us now being left at 6.15pm from work. Don’t think I will manage getting there on time anymore! Had choir practice this evening for mass tomorrow. Had some really yummy cake after that. I really eat a lot! Must note that I have been reaching home much earlier than expected, inspite of leaving later. Guess it is because of people still on holiday. Just […]

Five Saturdays Working

It’s official. In order to achieve our targets for the coming year, we will now have to work for five Saturdays starting 25th. Am glad that tommorrow isn’t working as I need the rest. Update: Saturdays will be working till 5.15 (thankfully not […]

And then God created Man

[…]created man and said, “Eat, sleep, play and enjoy your life. For this, I’ll give you twenty years.” But man said, “Only twenty years? Could you possibly give me my twenty, the forty the cow gave back, the ten the monkey gave back, and the ten the dog gave back; that makes eighty, okay?” “Okay,” said God, “You asked for it.” So that is why the first twenty years we eat, sleep, play and enjoy ourselves. For the next forty years we slave in the sun to support our family. For the next ten years we do monkey tricks to […]

Hindustan Times @250/yr

[…]don’t think I will get much chance reading yet another newspaper! On a lighter note, selling the newspaper you collect over the year as raddii (scrap) will give you approximately Rs. 300, which means you get to read the paper and also make a profit out of it! 😉 :O Now, where can you find an offer like that? To subscribe to the Hindustan Times, call the HT Smartline at 56265755, 56265774, 56265776, 56265787 between 10am and 8pm. Note: I am not affiliated in any way to Hindustan Times. This post is because the offer is a great deal and […]

Good Monday working

[…]Some module related issue needed to be sorted out. I haven’t worked on the module for over a year and being a lesser used one, no one else has either. Spent the entire day down in the shopfloor working on the module and the setup and just when I was getting ready to stay late, the module worked around 6.05pm. Wrapped up immediately and left for the day 😀 Reached home past eight and was really zonked. My bike still needs repair (story about this coming later). Hope to do it […]

Travel plan for Moon (for Indians only)

India plans to send 100 persons to the moon next year. They will be as follows: 25 – OBC 25 – SC 20 – ST 5 – Handicapped 5 – Sports Persons 5 – Terrorist Affected 5 – Kashmiri Migrants 9 – Politicians and if possible 1 ? […]

Is Hell Exothermic or Endothermic?

[…]freezes over. So which is it? If we accept the postulate given to me by Teresa during my Freshman year that, “It will be a cold day in Hell before I sleep with you,” and take into account the fact that I slept with her last night, then number two must be true, and thus I am sure that Hell is exothermic and has already frozen over. The corollary of this theory is that since Hell has frozen over, it follows that it is not accepting any more souls and is therefore, extinct…… leaving only Heaven, thereby proving the existence […]

In Orbit

Met up with my “two year treaty” friend today. The name because I first met her two years back and now we plan to meet two years down the line! Anyway, we went to the food court InOrbit in Malad. I’ve realized inspite of the wide choice you have to pick what you want to eat, there isn’t much I would eat. After she gorged into a Subway sandwich, I decided to take one. My last experience with Subway wasn’t too good and a pal of mine has kept telling me to stick to the non-veg. Decided to do that […]

To Gravatar or not to?

I have been using Gravatars in the comments of my posts for more than a year now. I have been using the Official Gravatar Plugin because no other plugin has worked suitably for me. The problem with the official plugin is that it pulls the gravatar from the main site during every load. This consumes a good amount of their bandwidth and also slows down the loading on this site. I’m now wondering if I should continue using Gravatars on this blog or not? Any thoughts about it? Are you using Gravatars on your blog? Would you like to see […]

Wedding Crashers

[…]wife, Kathleen, is getting married in what is sure to be the Washington D.C. social event of the year. After infiltrating the lavish affair, John and Jeremy quickly set their sights on two bridesmaids, Claire and Gloria Cleary. With the lavish reception in full swing, Jeremy works his game plan to perfection in seducing Gloria, but John’s flirtation banter with Claire is unexpectedly impeded by her pompous, Ivy League boyfriend Sack. Having uncharacteristically fallen hard and fast for Claire, John convinces a resistant Jeremy to bend the crashing rules and accept an invitation to an extended weekend party at the […]

I’m definitely not a CAT Person

[…]pattern with 5 options (instead of 4) and a max of 120 questions. The CAT format has changed every year for the past two years and so I expected it to be different so wasn’t shocked. However, the question paper was shocking. Turned out to be only a 75 question set, with each question four marks with wrong answers attracting a penalty 1 mark each. I’ve given a 75 question paper before so this wasn’t a surprise, the marking was. Anyway, began with Maths. Attempted 14 and I know for sure 1 is incorrect. Maths was really simple I must […]

Would you like to see a Connections Revolutions?

I put up the Connections Reloaded 2 Roadmap over a year ago and updated the same with the Connections Revolutions Roadmap in mid-Feb. It’s December now and the only site that is running Connections Revolutions is this blog. With over 6000 downloads from this site alone for Reloaded, to be honest I lost the interest to create an updated version of this theme. Nor did I receive any encouragement for the same, either in the form of donations and/or through requests. Just got a request today about Connections Revolutions and would like to throw this question over to the public. […]

Definitely Better

Last year, I came back rather disappointed and irritated with the Goan Association get-together. And so actually wondered how things would be this time. And I’m glad to say that this time was a lot lot better! Will confess I don’t understand Konkani, in which the entire mass is celebrated. I do understand the parts of the mass and so participated in English. Must make it point to mention that for the first time in seven years, we were not singing for this mass. I am not sure of the exact reasons for the same. And the other choir… they […]

A Communion Party

[…]cousin Danielle today. The party was held at Orchid in Wellingdon Gym. Have been there almost a year back. The party was a typical family party. This time Mom was in form. We ended up winning all the three games :O Prizes to the right for those who don’t believe 😀 Food was decent. No dancing, as is customary at most of our functions, but for the masala which is something I always avoid! Got back home and continued what I do best (or some of the many things) viz. blogging. Hope to hit the bed […]

How to get the ECNR

[…]time I was armed with everything that was needed, viz. Ration Card, University Certificate, Final Year Marksheet, Bank Statement and Bank Passbook and two copies of all these. This time we went a bit later i.e. around 10.00am instead of standing out there at 8am as we did last time. Didn’t take us long to enter in and stand in the line there. The counters timing is from 10am but they never open before 10.30am! We stood in seperate queues to see who reaches first. She did and I followed ten minutes later. What is interesting to note is that […]

Let’s put the ‘Christ’ in ‘Christmas’

[…]have forgotten the real essence of Christmas – Christ! What makes me say this about three random news stories? The headlines. All use the word “X-mas”. If you use the word “X-mas” today, without doubt it means that you are referring to Christmas. But, does everyone know what the meaning of Christmas? Apparently not all the children in Germany. I read a survey a few days back in a newspaper that this is also the case with UK (can’t find the link). In the first case children were surveyed and in the second teenagers. I would really love to see […]

Writing for WLTC

[…]is one of the biggest blog resource sites which I’ve been reading for a good number of years now. I used to post my theme and plugin related notifications out there. Late December, Mark asked me start writing for WLTC and I happily jumped at the offer 🙂 Here’s the formal announcement. You will now see my posts regularly at WLTC. I will be covering WordPress news, reviews and analysis of plugins, themes, hacks as well as general blogging related topics. This is a great opportunity and an equally great learning experience to be writing for a site the size […]

Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi

[…]many Hindu weddings, though I definitely have seen more of those than Catholic ones in the last year or two! Unfortunately, nothing has changed. I still know the same as I did earlier! Nikhil’s sister had the Sangeet last Saturday, two days before the wedding on Monday. The wedding and the reception were held at Crystal Springs in Bandra. I haven’t been there before and have heard mixed reviews of the place. Though, seeing the size of it I really wonder how Catholics have their receptions there, because if you have anything more than a 100 folks and the place […]

300 – Prepare for glory!

[…]not disappoint you at all. The entire movie was shot in just 60 days, but the editting took over a year and it clearly shows. The graphics in the movie are spectacular and the slow motion scenes really take the cake. This is one movie you have to watch on the full screen with surround sound. Word of advice: Don’t take your girlfriend for this one! Rating: […]

The Holy Week

[…]from our regular choice of colors, we decided to go all black with white ties this year for the guys and white and black for the ladies. White ties can be quite a problem and when you want ten of them, it can be next to impossible! So Thursday morning was spent hunting for white ties. We finally found them at a small shop at Andheri East station. Thursday evening was spent at church with Maundy Thursday mass listening to an extremely chaotic choir singing unknown hymns from an error rigged hymn sheet. Folks making hymn sheets please remember that […]

Goa Travels: Day 3 – At Home

[…]were huge, stretching in all directions. They aren’t normally this green at this time of the year, but due to recent showers a month back, the fields still had a good deal of grass. Grass brought the cows and buffaloes grazing as well as some geese (or were they ducks?) besides some goats. The sun sets quite early and the lack of good lighting results in darkness setting rather immediately. I did manage a picture of the setting sun, which I think looks really cool. Feel free to use it as your wallpaper 🙂 Before it got completely dark, Crispin […]

Bombay to Pune

Had to report to Pune on June 1 to get ready for my two year long MBA course at SCMHRD. I’ve never experienced hostel life and the longest I’ve been away from home was seven years back on my trip to Muscat. I made the rounds of meeting several friends in the past week. Had originally planned on carrying two bags and my laptop, but with the pillow and the bedsheets etc. that needed to be added to the list, I soon ended up with one big suitcase, one big bag and the laptop bag, all of which were bursting at […]

Sunday School Funnies

[…]Can anybody tell me what it is?” One child blurted out, “Aces!” MOSES &THE RED SEA Nine-year-old Joey, was asked by his mother what he had learned in Sunday school. “Well, Mom, our teacher told us how God sent Moses behind enemy lines on a rescue mission to lead the Israelites out of Egypt. When he got to the Red Sea, he had his army build a pontoon bridge and all the people walked across safely. Then, he radioed headquarters for reinforcements. They sent bombers to blow up the bridge and all the Israelites were saved.” “Now, Joey, is that […]

Life Last Two Months

[…]a PDF version of it for those interested. Also been looking into the advertising in magazines and newspapers. Can be both entertaining and quite a pain at times. But, it definitely has improved my negotiation skills. Answering phonecalls is the most painful part of Admissions. For one, most of the calls are regarding distance learning. SCMHRD doesn’t offer that and for distance MBA, you need to contact SCDL. The second set of questions are about the Management Quotas. This is handled directly by the Symbiosis Society. The last thing we did (besides tonnes of others) was load the trucks. Between […]

Ek Saal Baad

This day last year, more than 180 students found their way to a Business School in Hinjewadi. The school was Symbiosis Centre for Management and HRD and yours truly was one of those 180+ students. The first fortnight at SCMHRD was crazy. But, that was just the beginning. What followed was a crazy semester during which Ravi and me formed the WebComm and redesigned and relaunched the SCMHRD website. Also joined the Admissions Team, which would ensure that the next semester would be more hectic than the first. Not because of the hectic schedule we have at college, but because […]

Two Years, Four Years, Two Months

[…]we were there, the skies decided to open up and Mumbai got its taste of the monsoons this year. It poured cats and dogs for well over 30 minutes. I decided to spend the night at my Grandma’s place in Bandra itself. Came back home in the morning to find my internet down as usual. Went to work only by 2pm. With just a few days to go, it wasn’t such an issue 🙂 My darling Flame turned four on the 4th of June. She is still giving over 46kmpl which is excellent. Saturday was the last day of my […]

Open Picture Window v1.3 released

After well over a year, I have finally released Open Picture Window v1.3. It’s been tested and works perfectly on WordPress 2.6 and above. It should also be compatible with versions prior to v2.6. I’ve added the plugin to WordPress Extend, so you can find the latest version of the plugin available for download from there itself. The folder name has been changed to ald-openimagewindow, so in case you are upgrading you will need to delete the ald-openpicturewindow folder from /wp-content/plugins or WordPress will throw up activation errors. Read more and download Open Picture Window Plugin […]
