Featured in Mumbai Mirror’s Bloggers’ Park

Imagine my shock, surprise and excitement to find out that my review of Slumdog Millionaire was featured in Mumbai Mirror’s Bloggers’ Park. Mumbai Mirror is a newspaper focused for Mumbai that comes along with The Times of India. Though I must say that I didn’t see much traffic coming out here because of the article, I am pleased that my review was considered newspaper worthy šŸ™‚ Thank you Mumbai Mirror! And, thanks to @rahuljrark of Cool Tricks N Tips for pointing this out to me.

    Movie Review: Slumdog Millionaire

I don’t know how I missed reviewing this movie. Guess, sometimes you plan on doing and never end up. But, after Slumdog Millionaire‘s sweep of 8/10 Oscars, I decided to get down to it. Very few movies have created a craze among viewers worldwide and more importantly in India. The movie proves that even though it is directed by the foreign director, viz. Danny Boyle, it had the support and the hopes of a billion people of this country hoping that India’s shot at the Oscars is successful! The story of Jamal Malik, an 18 year-old orphan from the slums of Mumbai, who is about to experience the biggest day…

    Dining at Mumbai Times Cafe

A friendĀ heard of Mumbai Times Cafe, which opened a while back in Bandra, near KFC. So, we decided to check out the place for dinner. Parking in that area can be a pain, but we were lucky to find a spot for my bike. Mumbai Times Cafe is located on the fifth floor of Crystal Shoppers Paradise which is diagonally opposite KFC in the same lane. We were greeted the moment you step out of the elevator and led to a table for two in the “sand” section. I call it the sand section because sand covers the entire floor out there. You also have a tiny canoe there as…

    13 days later

No, I am not talking about the movie, but just the last 20 days of my life; life that has kept me so busy that you haven’t read about any personal updates. So, here’s a quick round up of the last two weeks of my life. The week from 19th to 24th of Jan was like any other week of my life. Spent all of it blogging, reading, eating, talking and sleeping. 23rd was the first and last test of this semester. The test was on Strategic Marketing. We were given a choice between a two simple questions and a case on TESCO. IMO, education should be practical and case…

An Anniversary, a Birthday and a Journey

After a quiet two days at home, I finally ventured out on Sunday evening for mass. I?ve realized that I can spend days at home without evening stepping outside and not even think twice about it. Pizzas always get delivered, don?t they? šŸ˜‰ Anyway, Sunday the 4th also marked the 28th Wedding Anniversary of my parents and since Dad isn?t here I decided to take Mom out for dinner. However, she chose to order home and so be it. Dinner was Chicken Manchurian, Prawns Masala and Chicken Fried rice. We tried a smaller new restaurant near my place instead of the regular one I ordered. While the chicken was good,…

“Nakabandi” – Terror Inhibitor or Terror Aider

By now all of you must be aware of the Terror Attacks in Mumbai starting 26/11 [Photos]. it’s been one month since then and the actual persons behind it have still to be caught. This post isn’t about them, but actually about something that I experienced in the last two days. Yesterday, as I headed into town and today on my way back home, I got stuck in traffic that stretched for a few kilometers. Couldn’t figure out why exactly this was until I saw the nakabandi (i.e. roadblocks in Hindi) with police checking taking place. The result of this was a huge highway being halved in width and a…

A Week in Pune and it’s Mumbai again

After a good long party, I went off to watch The Day the Earth stood Still on Tuesday. Wednesday and Thursday were relatively lighter days. Went off to McDonalds for dinner on Thursday. Was so exhausted, that I just crashed after coming back. Friday was lecture day with me attending a Strategic Marketing class. The strategic marketing class so far has been filled with cases which makes studying a pleasure. I hate subjects that require us to learn by rote and vomit it out at the exam. While theory is necessary, it is important that there are a good number of cases. The internet connection at college has been as…

After Fish Curry, it’s back to Pune

This post was scheduled for December 1st, but never ended up getting done. Met up with a friend atĀ Gajalee in Seepz for a sea food dinner. The prices there have already been steep and after the makeover, its gone steeper. However, must admit that one dish is enough to fill two persons. Ordered a sweet corn chicken soup followed by fish tikka masala and some chapatis. Caught the 6a.m. Volvo back to Pune, which has been my routine whenever I come here to Mumbai. Attended lectures in the evening. They are so few that they don’t seem very interesting. However, we have to attend. Sneha‘s boy was down so we…

    Terror in Mumbai

The last time we had a major terror incident in Mumbai was when the bombs rocked the train in Mumbai in 2006. Mumbai is no stranger to violence when in 1993, we were hit by a series of blasts all across the city. However, this time things are different. I reached home at around 10.30 last night after having dinner at Dynasty. A friend informed me off a shooting incident at Leopold in Colaba. I switched on the news to read about the incident and within the next hour realized that it wasn’t just a stray firing but what would turn out to be a full fledged terror attack. It…

    Shopping and Church

Fourth semester at SCMHRD is one of the most relaxed semesters. We have Neev just around the corner and so I am relatively free. Decided to go to church today. Maria was pleased since she has been after me to do so for a long long time! Am sure my Mom too was pleased. Today was the feast of Christ the King as well as it happens to be my brother’s birthday. The feast of Christ the King marks the end of the liturgical year. This is usually a big event in my church back in Mumbai. Next Sunday is the first Sunday of Advent. I can finally start playing…
