Movie Review: Eurovision Song Contest

When I saw the promo of Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga, I expected it to be a fun movie to watch. Having just watched this on Netflix, I have to say it delivered.

The Trailer

The Plot

Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga tells the story of Lars (Will Ferrell) and Sigrit (Rachel McAdams), two aspiring musicians from a small town in Iceland who dream of making it big by winning the Eurovision contest. What follows are a series of mishaps and really good songs.

My short review

Will and Rachel deliver excellent performances, with nice accents, funny and sometimes awkward expressions. Pierce Brosnan in the role of Will’s dad plays the side role of a grumpy and soon to be proud father. Dan Stevens, plays Alexander Lemtov, the singing Russian and features in some good song performance, although he doesn’t sing them. Melissanthi Mahut (known for Assassin’s Creed Origins and Odyssey which I am currently playing) plays Mita Xenakis, Greece’s entry into the contest.

I thoroughly enjoyed their performances and the very unrealistic storyline. The music is catchy with a healthy mix of funny, catchy songs like Jaja Ding Dong or more slower paced numbers like Double Trouble and Husavik. The scene I absolutely loved was their performance in the semi-finals. I couldn’t help laughing like crazy. But, I’ll leave it for you to discover it when you watch the movie.

My rating: 7/10
